Accelerated Reader Program

St. Paul Lutheran School continues to support the Accelerated Reader (AR) Program, a motivational reading program intended to encourage independent reading in all students (K through 5th grade).  The premise of the program is to place emphasis on reading practice as measured by percent correct and points earned from AR quizzes based on the student’s “Zone of Proximal Development” (ZPD Range).  The ZPD Range is the range of reading difficulty that is challenging and enjoyable, but does not frustrate the reader.  The AR quizzes are intended to hold students accountable for reading practice and ensure that students have read and understood a particular book.  Customized reports are generated to assist teachers in identifying which learning gaps need to be filled.  The AR Program is not used in calculating a student’s grade for a particular grading period.
